In class today, we read the Wife of Bath's story. She is the one who tells the story of a knight who forces himself upon a young maiden, and finds himself in the position of having 366 days to come up with an almost impossible answer: What do women most desire?
Although ribald in its nature, and quite objectionable--especially in its outcome--if one looks at the story through the eyes of the narrator, the Wife of Bath, one sees that there's a reason she tells it: You, too, may have the likes of me, potential husbands, if you will avoid judging solely upon appearance. Why, I may just be the answer to your dreams!
The Wife of Bath's story reminds us of the virtue of being charitable to those in need, despite what they are able to do for us. The W.O.B., in a sort of lateral, oblique way, shows us the lesson of treating others with honor/respect and kindness--even though it seems to be a story about a convict getting a trophy. Remember about her Perspective, her Motivation and her Support: these "drive" her story.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT...
For tonight... visit our online textbook and make friends with the Pardoner's tale. It is equally as interesting as the Wife of Bath's tale, although not as lurid. Here's a link to the text book:

Read and be ready to discuss The Pardoner's Tale on page 173.
* Your Vocabulary List 5 sentences are due tomorrow (Thursday). Test on Friday.
* As soon as we finish Pardoner's Tale, we take a test on Beowulf, Chaucer...
Also... check out this YouTube video of The Pardoner's Tale. It's actually rather "spot-on":
