MONDAY
So here's the deal for Monday. You are own your own to read all of ACT III - the CLIMAX. The PDF is available for download on the resources page, and you are welcome to check out the sparknotes no fear Shakespeare site, too. You must write a summary of ACT III that includes the SOMEBODY, WANTED, BUT, SO method. Each scene in ACT III should be summarized and placed in a coherent paragraph like this:
ACT II
SCENE 1. Banquo and Fleance (SOMEBODY) want to go to sleep (what they WANTED), but Banquo is on edge (BUT), so he warns his son of his misgivings (SO). Next, Macbeth (SOMEBODY) comes in Banquo's room wanting to discuss the witches' phrophecies with Banquo (WANTED), but he doesn't want to reveal his murderous plans (BUT), so he lies to Banquo and says he doesn't even think about the witches' phrophecies at all (SO). SCENE 2. Next, (SOMEBODY) Macbeth wants to avoid committing this crime as revealed in his soliloquy (WANTED), but Lady Macbeth rails on him for being weak (BUT), so he changes his mind yet again and resolves to murder Duncan(SO). Macbeth wants to kill Duncan with no remorse, but his conscience bothers him, so he shows regret with the closing words, "Wake Duncan with thy knocking! I would that thou couldst!" SCENE 3. Scene 3 begins with the porter wanting whoever is knocking on the outside his door to stop knocking so loudly, but the knocking continues, so, while delivering a monologue, he goes to let the knockers in. Macduff and Lennox want to go into King Duncan's chambers and wake him up, but when Macduff goes in he finds Duncan murdered, so he rushes out and announces the dastardly deed. Lady Macbeth wants to immediately assume the Queenship, but she has to bide her time and wait, so she launches into a hysterical fit of horror when she "finds out" that Duncan has been murdered. Malcolm and Donalbain want to find out who murdered their father, but they fear for their lives, so they flee, making some suspect they were the ones who murdered Duncan. SCENE 4. An old man wants there to be calm and order in Scotland--like the times he's always remembered, but clearly there is murder and mayhem, so he expresses his dismay at the king's assassination. Macduff and Ross want to know who killed Duncan, but they are deceived into thinking the servants did it, so they hope for better times.
Now, this is just an example. I dropped the Somebody Wanted But So tags after Scene 2, but I kept the structure. Yours should be on ACT III. Note, that I will be checking your language against summaries widely available on the internet. Just sayin'...
