Most of you have survived the opening challenge: two sessions of an SAT-like exam. Questions have swirled around, such as, "Why are we doing this?" and "What's the point?" If you've had those questions, here's the answer: data. Here at HHS, we are data-driven, and this diagnostic tool is one of those means by which we collect data. We are going to target your learning based on where the data send us. This means that while it is painful to endure, we need to collect information about where you currently are, early in the semester. Fortunately, it's over...for now. (For most of you.)
What's due? Use each of the twenty words on your vocabulary list in well-constructed, non-cut-&-pasted sentences, hand-written, by Thursday. This will give us a few moments in class on Thursday to check for understanding/usage of the words. I will also be able to tell who's checking weebly and who isn't.

If you haven't, I expect you to be ready for a detailed explication of the interior construction of the plot sequencing, character development, philosophical and anthropological themes, as well as being able to tell who did what. Muhahahahaha... <maniacal laughing>
- Coming up: some Beowulf GUI. Critical questions: what is the contemporary definition of a hero, and how does the current definition differ from that of 7th Century AD Angles and Saxons?
